The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Enforcement team have arrested some residents of Aboru in Alomisho, LGA whose children/wards were caught dumping refuse in the drainage during a recent downpour.
Ignorance of the law is said not to be an excuse to engage in these unwholesome acts.
The arrest came on the back of an intelligence report by Lagos Waste Reporter, a Twitter handle who shared a video of the area on Thursday, 24th October 2019.
The Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin while reacting to this reminded residents of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s executive order on zero tolerance to environmental infractions.
While stressing that violators would be sanctioned under relevant environmental laws of the state, the LAWMA MD warned that under no circumstances should anyone dump refuse in drainage channels, medians, lagoons or any other unauthorised outlets.
Dr. Gbadegesin said further highlighted that LAWMA had intensified the distribution of waste disposal bags under its #BlueBox Initiative, for residents to sort their waste and dispose appropriately, through PSPs operating in their areas.
The general public is also advised to contact the Authority using the toll-free line 07080601020, for complaints and relevant information.
