Barring the unforeseen, the Lagos State University Main Campus, Ojo, will start enjoying 24hours uninterrupted power supply from the First Quarter of the Year 2020.

This much was established on Wednesday, 6th November, 2019, when the Management of energy firm, Trans-Atlantic Energy Group, met with the Management of Lagos State University, Ojo, at the Vice Chancellor ‘s Conference Room to further an ongoing discussion on the building of 10 megawatt Independent Power Project (IPP) on the Main Campus of the institution.

The Independent Power Project, a Lagos State Government initiative aimed at generating constant power supply to LASU Ojo Campus and selected Lagos State Government Establishments with close proximity to the University Campus, was first mooted under the administration of Former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN.

Determined to actualize the laudable project, the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has recently green-lighted a resuscitation of the project, culminating in a series of actions and discussions by the relevant stakeholders, one of which is the meeting of Wednesday.

The Group Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Trans-Atlantic Energy Group, Dr. Akin Awodeyi Akinsehinwa, in his remarks, assured that the Project is a win-win situation for both parties as the Company intends to engage the Engineering Students of the University in the practical aspect of generation and distribution of Electricity as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the University, to enhance their knowledge and future of power generation in the Country.

Trans-Atlantic Energy is handling the project.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, on his part noted that the meeting was a historic one and few months from now, the dividend would be evident.

He further assured the Company that the University is a willing partner and will continue to actively engage and follow-up with the Government and the concerned Ministry on the Project to ensure it’s fruition.

Furthermore, Prof. Fagbohun, SAN, noted the vision of the University Management for the university to be a 24/7 hub for activities with the drive to be a reference point for innovative and scholarly research, a vision to which the IPP project is critical.
