The chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Onilude Olusegun has noted that the council would organise a 5 day enlightenment programme on Lassa fever prevention from January 31st to orientate the community on the prevention of the contagious disease.
While speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, Onilude noted that there is need to alert the people on necessary things to do to prevent the outbreak of the disease.
“The programme is to put them on alert, educate them on how to cover what they eat and imbibe hand-washing habit regularly. This is the awareness we want to create these five days” he declared.
Onilude also noted that “medical personnel will articulate all the key points that will be needed during the programme.”
Sensitization is expected to be done using outdoor jingles, road shows as well as at various health centres and communities by the Health Education Unit of the local government while respective Community Development Council (CDC) are expected to spread the information to their communities.
On the modalities for the programme, Mrs Bamidele Layode-Abdulkadir, the Supervisor for Health of the LG noted that the programme will feature a road show from the Secretariat to the market then to the venue of the programme – the Badagry Town Hall.
Also, T-Shirts will be provided and screening will be done at the venue by medical professionals; residents will also be educated on what to do in order to prevent these diseases.
