The Lagos State Ministry of Health has debunked reports being shared on WhatsApp of confirmed cases of nCorona virus in Gowon Estate in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
The state commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi said that there are no confirmed cases of #2019nCoV in Lagos as of now and that investigation is still ongoing.
Information had broke on WhatsApp on this and the ministry swung into action with a team led by the Dr. Odufuwa from Alimosho LG, Dr. Oni from Mosan Okunola LCDA, Mr. Akinfolarin Baruwa the CDC Chairman and another Community informant.
The team also observed that no close or street was found in the area as shared in the fake news alert after due investigation using relevant technologies.
The search was ended 12.18am on Sunday, 9th February 2020 with a promise to increase surveillance on hotels and other resort/recreational spots.
The commissioner however hinted that suspected cases should be reported to ministry through these call centre lines; 08023169485, 08033685529 and 08052817243.
Circulation of false outbreak news is a criminal offence under the law and any caught will be prosecuted.
