A Corps Member Okonkwo Ifeoma Cheta currently serving in Wamakko LGA in Sokoto state haven noticed the scarcity of water where she was serving has built a borehole which cost her ₦1.2 million for the community.

25 year old Ifeoma hails from Anambra State and is a Food Science and Technology Graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Awka.

The inauguration of the project was witnessed by Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Dan-Iya who was represented by the acting Permanent Secretary, Water Resources Ministry , Hajiya Aishatu Salihu Gatawa; the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Phillip Enabule, also represented by the Community Development Services Coordinator, Mr Thompson Ejibu; the District Head of Kaurar Mallam Garba, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji amongst others.

The project, Ifeoma hinted, was part of her undying desire to impact on the lives of the people of the community, as well as put smiles on their faces.

Also, the choice of the community was informed by the chronic dearth of a reliable source of potable water in the area.

”I am also passionate Advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), that was even I stayed back in Sokoto State, to further assist in uplifting the living standard of the people,” Ifeoma concluded.

The district head of the community promised to routinely maintain the borehole while the State NYSC Coordinator noted the invaluable project forms part of the four Cardinal Prpgatmmes of the scheme.

The project was also described as a life-impacting project for the community by the State’s Deputy Governor.

Before now, Ifeoma has empowered 500 physically challenged pupils of A. A. Raji primary school in the state on the occasion of the 2019 independence day celebrations as well as, Keep the Girls in Schools Campaign, where she trained Secondary School Girls on how to use renewable sanitary pads.
