The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has reacted to claims on the Honourable Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, call for tertiary institutions to resume the session by online learning.
The ministry had directed all institutions to be closes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic just like every other sector.
In a leaflet issued by the ASUU-UI Publicity Committee, ASUU noted that the Minister is either engaged in political gimmickry or that “he is not fully informed of the situation in the sector over which he presides.”
The union noted that the Minister needs to understand that e-learning is not the same as computer vending and supplies neither is it as simple as computerization or simply connecting institutions to the internet.
Other points raised by the Union to counter the minister includes production of PowerPoint slides, varied internet access across the country, poverty level in Nigeria to allow students access online learning amongst other challenges such as electricity and computing gadgets.
