Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended Muyiwa Gbadegesin as the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, on Monday.
Ibrahim Odunboni has however been appointed as in acting capacity on probation pending announcing a substantive MD.
The erstwhile Managing Director, LAWMA, Muyiwa, was suspended as a measure to address the alleged conflict between him and the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello.
Muyiwa’s suspension was also noted to be connected with separate issues leveled against him by stakeholders in the waste sector.
Inside sources at LAWMA however said that Gbadegesin’s suspension was announced at the close of work on Friday after he allegedly disregard the commissioner for Environment, Tunji Bello’s directives on critical solutions to address the agency’s challenges in the state.
It was also learned that rather than report progress and consult the commissioner on challenges facing LAWMA, Gbadegesin allegedly introduce policies without the knowledge of the commissioner and this was said to often led to persistent face-off between both parties.
It was also learned that the Executives of the Waste Operators Association have issued a statement, alerting its members of the new development and directed that they support Odubunmi in his new appointment.
The statement reads thus:
“Dear all, it has been confirmed that Mr Ibrahim Adejuwon Odumbomi is now the Managing Director of LAWMA. We congratulate him and look forward to a rewarding and more profitable relationship for all Operators”.
