Throwback to January 1984 when 39 year old Dr. Ibrahim Gambari, was sworn-in as Minister of External Affairs at a wood-paneled conference room in Dodan Barracks,Ikoyi, Lagos.
Dr. Gambari was then the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) that was appointed by the former President Shehu Shagari.
Also Dr. Gambari was in attendance in 1984 when Lt Gen Vernon Walters (Rtd), roving Ambassador of the US, delivered a message from President Reagan to the Head of State Maj. Gen. Buhari.
Gambari is also the son of an emir and received a Ph.D. in International Relations from Columbia University in New York in 1974.
