New EFCC Chairman, Mohammed Umar, Resumes Office

A Deputy Commissioner of Police and the second most senior operative in the Nigeria Police Force, Mohammed Umar, has resumed as the acting chairman of the operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Umar resumed office after the suspension of the Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over some corrupt allegations.
It was however gathered that there had been moves to install the Secretary, Ola Olukoyede, as the chairman pending the suspension of Ibrahim Magu.
Magu’s probe has been noted to be an affirmation that nobody under the present administration is above scrutiny, the government has hinted.
A source in the presidency had explained that the interrogation of the anti-graft boss is to give him the opportunity to clear himself of weight allegations.
The source stressed that the investigation of the EFCC boss was to reinforce the Buhari administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
