The Warri-Itakpe 276 kilometres Railway to connect the three states of Delta, Edo and Kogi is set to be launched by President Buhari on Tuesday.
The project which was first announced in 1987 and revived in 2009 by the Goodluck Jonathan administration is to ease the price of transportating passengers and goods.
Recall that in October 2019, the Federal Government signed a ₦1.4trillion ($3.9 billion) contract with China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, CCECC, to extend the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri Railway line to the national capital of Abuja.
The railway line was originally designed for the transportation of Iron Ore to Ajaokuta (Kogi) and Aladja steel Rolling mills (Delta State) to transport processed steel to the port in Warri, Delta State.
Also, $1.9bn has been approved for the rail connecting Kano, Jigawa and Katsina to Niger.
