The member representing Badagry at the Federal House of Representative, Babatunde Hunpe, has pleaded with organisers of the October 1st protest on the deplorable conditions of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to shelve the planned protest.
Hunpe, while speaking with newsmen in Badagry, noted that the contractor will soon return to site on the expressway.
“I want to appeal to you especially the Youths to calm down because we will have good days ahead,” Hunpe said.
Recall that Youths have planned to stage a protest come October 1st.
The lawmaker further revealed that he had raised the matter on the floor of the house but the work is very slow than the expectations.
“It is wrong for my people to say I have not discussed the issue at the floor of the house. I am always in touch with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and some of my efforts can be seen because palliative works had been done twice on the road.”
On the controversy about the amount allocated to expressway in the 2020 budget, Hunpe claimed full knowledge and clarified thus:
“₦1.63 billion was budgeted for the expressway but when the Chairman, House Committee on Public Service and Establishment, Bala Sanni, visited ASCON, he was talking about the ₦280 million allocated to the Gbaji-Apa-Owode Road construction,” he explained.
Hunpe also noted he is happy that a member of the House of Representatives was on ground to see the deplorable conditions of the road.
