The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Setonji David, on Wednesday donated desks, benches and stationery to primary and secondary schools in Badagry.

Donating the items, the lawmaker said that he had gone round the schools and discovered that they were in need of seats and writing tools.

It was reported that schools that benefited from the items are L.A Primary School, Ibereko, State Senior High School, Ibereko and State Junior High School, Ibereko, Badagry.

Setonji said that he decided to buy the items for distribution to the schools so that pupils and students would be encouraged to study in an environment conducive to learning.

“This is symbolic; though it is not enough for the schools, at least, this has shown my commitment to development of education in my constituency.

“I believe that the bedrock of our development in Badagry should be based on good and qualitative education.

“Today, for distribution to these schools, we have 80 pairs of benches and desks, 100 dozens of exercise books, 24 pieces of marker boards, 24 pieces of marker wipers, 24 packets of markers and two packets of refilling ink.

“Others are four First Aid Boxes, 10 bundles of toilet rolls, 10 pieces of water bucket and 12 pieces of bins,” he said.

The lawmaker said he had distributed desks, benches and stationery to LA Primary School in Ajara and others earlier in the year.

He urged parents to ensure their children go to school, stressing that education was paramount to anything in life.

David said that he was aware of lack of classrooms for students in Badagry, and was constructing six classrooms in one of the schools in the area.

The Onibereko of Ibereko land, Oba Israel Okoya, lamented the dilapidated state of primary and secondary schools in Ibereko.

He urged the lawmaker to continue the good work in other schools in his constituency.

Mrs Aminat Adebayo, the Education Secretary for Badagry Local Government said that the state government had renovated more than 10 schools since she assumed office.

She urged the LASG to erect prototype classrooms in Badagry schools.

Mrs. Olayinka Laditan, the Principal, State Senior High School, commended the lawmaker for donating the items, saying they would go a long way in assisting teachers in carrying out their duties.

The principal said they would replace some desks and benches were damaged.

She appealed to other well-meaning Badagry people to emulate the lawmaker and donate items to schools to encourage learning.

Francis Joseph, a student of State Junior High School, thanked the lawmaker for coming to assist them with the items.
