Olusegun Onilude, Chairman, Badagry Local Government area of Lagos State, says he is recontesting the council chairmanship to complete the projects started by his administration.
Onilude said on Monday in Badagry that this would give him more time to complete most of the projects started by his administration.
According to him, we came in 2018 with aspirations and focus; we have began it.
“We have achieved some, some are still in the process, while some constructions were going on here and there.
“Definitely, we won’t be able to finish all within this remaining space of time, and I don’t pray that such laudable projects should become an abandoned projects.
“As a Nigerian, we have this nag of not picking up projects left by our
predecessors, because if completed, the glory will be shared.
“Most people don’t like that, they want to start a fresh thing.
“These are some of the reasons why we feel we should be given an opportunity to complete these projects so that it will not be abandoned,” Onilude said.
He said that most of these abandoned projects, if in later years an administration decides to complete them, would cost more than the initial costs.
“Lagos State experienced it during the former Gov. Later Jakande’s Metroline project when the military regime that took over abandoned the project.
“The contractor handling the project took the state to Court and the penalty paid by the state government was exactly the amount to complete the project.
“The state lost and the people lost also.
“Also, here in Badagry, we have a Chairman Lodge project initiated by late George, the former Badagry chairman then.
“Up till date, that project had been abandoned; you can imagine if I want to continue with the project the amount it will cost,” he said.
The chairman said that even, in the area they felt they had achieved, there were still much to be done.
“We have not completely repaired most of the roads that link the main road.
“One of the major set back of Badagry is lack of infrastructure; so, we want to do more and more of infrastructure.
“At present, I’m planning for a project that every ‘Badagryians’ will take as their own.
“The project will be a unique thing that will be attractive and bring everyone together. The project is in the pipeline, I won’t say more than that,” he said.
Onilude said that these were some of the reasons why he felt his administration still have something to offer the people of Badagry.
