The Government of Nigeria has registered their presence on Indian’s powered microblogging platform – Koo App as @nigeriagov.
The account has also been verified by the platform as the authentic handle of the government.
This is coming in less than a week when I have the ban of Twitter was announced in the country.
Also, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on new media, Jubril Gawat, has joined the platform.
Jubril first post was to announce the Lagos State commencement of retrofitting streetlights in Lekki before announcing his presence.
Other government officials who has had their presence on the app includes President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie and Bashir Ahmad the Personal Assistant on Digital and New Media joined has the platform.
Lauretta announced her presence asking “Where’s everyone?”.
She thereafter kooed: Its quite peaceful here. It took a brave and courageous decision of our government aimed at protecting our dignity and sovereignty, to bring us here.

Others who have joined the app also included the Nigerians in Disapora Commission (NIDCOM), Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi; Personal Assistant on New Media to Abike Dabiri, Akinsola; Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Akobi Tolulope amongst others.
Recall that the Koo App had launched in Nigeria as an alternative to Twitter which was banned Indefinitely in Nigeria on Friday, 4th June.
Koo app, which is currently valued at over $100 million, was launched in Kannada, India and won India’s Aatmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge in August 2020.
The app is estimated to have 6 million users as of May 2021 and was first named Ku Koo Ku.
