The defending European champions, Italy, have crashed out of World Cup contention with a 1-0 loss to North Macedonia on Thursday.
The Azuris conceded late in the play-off from an Aleksandar Trajkovski strike from outside the box to seal their fate.
Italy’s last knockout game at a World Cup was in 2006, when they won the competition.
With this, Italy have failed to qualify for back-to-back World Cups for the first time in their history. They missed out in 2018 and 2022.
