It is one of the most memorable moments in Women’s football.
Brandi Chastain took her shirt off after scoring the winning penalty in the 1999 Women’s World Cup final.
That is how things started and millions of viewers see the image on their television. Nothing special right? Not really.
Some conservative and religious groups thought this is too much for them. “How dare you let our kids see your bra and half naked”.
Shortly after IFAB caved and banned female players to take their shirts off during celebrations. Then here come feminist groups. They demand the same treatment between men and women.
So in 2004, FIFA updated their rulebook. The players will be booked if they took their shirts off in a celebration. The stupid rule stays until today.
