Nigerians React As Zenith Bank Suspends International Card Payment on ATM Cards

Zenith Bank of Nigeria has confirmed that they will not be supporting international card payments on their local debit cards again with effect from Monday, 9th January 2023.

This was confirmed in messages sent across to their customers on Friday titled Suspension of International ATM Withdrawals, POS Payments and Web Transactions Using Zenith Bank Naira Cards.

Prior to the news, the Premier Bank was only allowing $20 per month on their naira ATM cards via any channel for international payments.

Reacting to the news, several persons are bitter about the update and EmmanuelScott1 on Nairaland wrote:

Another user on Twitter, Amir Salis said:

This is not fair at all. We don’t fully have access to the bank and u people are trying to block our cards. We are tired of this, which kind rubbish be this naa. How u wan we wey be students to do this. Na lecturers u wan live go bank abi wetin.. this one no make sense at all😠😠

On Nairaland, benqo01 quoting remsonik and responding said:

This is wickedness, now I can’t run my Facebook ads, my goods I get on Amazon, alibaba and internationally I can’t get them any more with my card.

Meanwhile, a curious user on Twitter asked: Please which bank is still using Naira Card to transact International web payment I want to close my account tomorrow morning and it’s quite unfortunate that no other Nigeria Bank is allowing international payments on their cards.

With this news, Zenith Bank has joined the rest in stopping any form of international payments on their cards the last being Guaranteed Trust Bank (GTB) which stopped theirs on 31st December 2022.
