Local Government Chairmen Gets Life Pension in Abuja

Like ex-governors, local governments are now granting life pensions to chairmen as chairman of AMAC signed an edict on payment of life pension.
Abdullahi Adamu Candido, the Chairman of  AMAC – Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has signed into law a bill approving pension to the council’s past elected chairmen, vice-chairmen and speakers.
With the passage of this bill, past council chairmen would be given ₦500,000; Vice Chairmen, ₦300,000 and past elected speakers would get ₦200,000 yearly.
These past elected officials living would benefit from the welfare package which would cost the council more than ₦6 million per annum.
The bill, Candido said, was to honour the labour of past herous towards the building of the council and also celebrate the council’s 35th anniversary as well as the Nation’s independence.
“To forget the contributions of these individuals that brought remarkable development to our people in no small measure and to get AMAC to the high plane it is today will be the greatest ill-treatment to these ambassadors. They are today heroes of this council, and we wouldn’t allow their labour to be in vain,” he said.
The past elected chairmen includes:

  1. Kyauta Yepwi (January 1988 – July 1989),
  2. Ayuba Ngbako (January 1991 – November 1993, 1996-1997),
  3. Princess (Mrs) Vivian Anazodo – April 1997 – July 1997),
  4. Esther Audu (June 1999 – April 2004),
  5. Zaphaniah Jisalo (April 2004 – May 2010),
  6. Micah Jiba (May 2010 – May 2016).

Former Vice Chairmen includes:

  1. Joshua Kaima, Engr. David Umeano,
  2. Mohammed Dili,
  3. Engr. Chris Ekponobi,
  4. Oluchi Justina Okoye,
  5. Mrs. Anthonia Okoli,
  6. Musa Ali Gwoza.

Past speakers in AMAC includes:

  1. Bitrus Kura, Alhassan Yusuf,
  2. Kuyembo Chidawa,
  3. Hassan Mabushi,
  4. Nyawosa Bala, Alhassan Idris,
  5. Dantani Zadna and
  6. Daniel Michael.

The beneficiaries include six former chairmen, six former vice chairmen and eight surviving former speakers of the council’s legislative chamber.
