Lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency l in Lagos State House of Assembly, Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, on Sunday donated two cows and 1,200 packages of food items to Badagry residents for Easter celebration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the residents, who queued, observing social distancing at seven different places, were given a package each of the stimulus.

Each of the package contained frozen chicken, fish, rice, spaghetti, groundnut oil, sugar and salt.

At Mobil junction in Badagry, the lawmaker handed over a live cow, four bags of 50kg rice and a cash of ₦50,000 to a group named “Team Lagos” for the Easter celebration.

One of the two cows donated by Layode to a group to mark Easter celebration in Badagry.

In Ashipa village in Seme, Layode gave another group named “Kweme Kelenu”, a live cow, four bags of 50kg rice, five bags of 10kg of Semovita and cash of ₦50,000 to mark the Easter.

The lawmaker also visited Woyanmi, Zango and Asakpo communities along Seme Expressway and donated food items and cash gift.

Speaking to newsmen, Layode said the gesture was to enable his constituents to celebrate Easter with their families in their little way.

He said that he decided to give out food items “to enable my people to celebrate Easter in their respective homes’’.

According to him, constituents will not be able to come out due to the lockdown order.

“That is why I decided to assist them in my little way.

“I have started the gesture since last week and I have touched all the 12 wards in my constituency.

“I have distributed over 300 bags of 50kg rice and money to all the zones.

“We have also given two live cows, rice, semovita and cash to two groups that consist of over 120 people each, for the celebration,’’ he said.

He urged the residents to cooperate with the government by ensuring that they stayed at home and remain prayerful.

Layode begged them to abide strictly by safety guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

He prayed that the country would overcome COVID-19 “very soon”.

Mrs Esther Kuponu, one of the beneficiaries, said the package was timely, adding that it would help her to enjoy the celebration.

Kuponu said that if the package had been coming before now, “things would not have been as hard as we are experiencing now’’.

Mr Isaac Suru, a member of Team Lagos, commended the lawmaker for making the celebration a reality for the residents.

Mr Abdul-Haruna Oguntosin, a community leader in Ashipa, Seme said that the package would go a long way in making the celebration a good one for people in the area. (NAN)
