Supporters of the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 Bayelsa governorship election, David Lyon, poured to the streets Monday in ecstatic mood to celebrate the Tribunal’s verdict which had earlier invalidated the election while ordering INEC to conduct a fresh poll within 90 days.
Governor Diri has appealed the judgement and if he loses, he still has the Supreme Court window and if the Apex Court okays the Tribunal ruling.
This also means both Diri and Lawrence Ewurdjakpor will exit office for a fresh ballot and the Speaker of the Assembly would be sworn in as acting Governor.
Section 33 and 35 of the 2010 Electoral Act (as amended) clearly states that the APC can contest in the fresh elections.
The APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Senator Degi Wagara, can withdraw his nomination at least 45 days before the elections. The court ordered a fresh election to be conducted within 90 days.
