The Super Falcons of Nigeria reached the finals of this year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations Championship after the Super Falcons defeated their hosts, the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in Abidjan on Wednesday evening.
The 9 times African champions won on an aggregate 3-0 win despite the Ivorians attack and were inspired by goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie who manned the goalpost well enough.
Coach Randy Waldrum made two changes to the starting line-up from the first leg, bringing in midfielder Regina Otu and forward Francisca Ordega.
Ordega’s attempt in the first half was ruled out for offside before the 34th minute, penalty awarded by the Nigerien referee Zouwaira Souley after Ashleigh Plumptre tripped an Ivorian striker in the Nigerian area but goalkeeper Nnadozie saved the shot, and the contact from the same player off the rebound went into side-netting.
Esther Okoronkwo scored the winner at the 87th minute from her second cap for Nigeria and earned the team victory and confirmed a 3-0 aggregate win for the Super Falcons.
