Within hours of the arrival of the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arrival into the country from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), news came in that both government has reached some level of agreement and the visa ban from the UAE for Nigerians has been lifted.
While the news is widely circulated and welcomed to the relieve of many, there were still some who had doubts and it was not too long before a counter report came that the news wasn’t correct.
The Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Information, Bayo Onanuga, clarified this via his X handle on Tuesday.
“UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians. The document in circulation is not authorised either by the Nigerian government or the UAE,” he wrote.
Before then, Onanuga was credited to have shared a document stating that the UAE had lifted its visa ban on Nigerians after two years of diplomatic row, a claimed he refuted.
Recall that the UAE had in October 2022 banned Nigerians and citizens from 19 other African countries from entering its borders.
Netizens reacts as follow:
Don Ajalakpo: My reaction when I saw the news. Trust this people? At your own risk.
Queen Bee: Tinubu and The APC cannot do without propaganda and lies, unfortunately they have met their match.
You MUST question anything coming from them.
Shame!!!
TeeTalk: This UAE ban lift has been announced more than twice. It seems that achievement is more important than ending the hunger strike in our country.
