There has been improved presence of security personnel at the Edo State House of Assembly just hours after the house served the Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, Impeachment notice.
Shaibu was given the impeachment notice within seven days and within the last 24 hours, staff at the assembly chambers has been under intense checks before they can access their work stations.
The House Majority leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced the impeachment notice during plenary, said the petition dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members against the deputy governor.
The speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku thereafter acknowledged receipt of the petition, directed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai, to serve Shaibu the impeachment notice.
Recall that Shaibu and the Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been at loggerheads since 2023 when he had declared his intention to vie for the number one office in the state.
Shaibu has also been charged by the House for revealing classified documents for the state by the Assembly.
Speaking to a source at the Daily Post, a staff said that the presence of the members of the state security outfit was to forestall any unforeseen attack and invasion of the house by suspected hoodlums.
The source said: “As of yesterday, staff of the House were being screened as well as their vehicles by the security personnel of the House,” the news platform.
It was the reported that members of the Edo State Security Networks, ESSN, armed with guns took over the front of the house and its surroundings.
They were said to be at the entrance gate to enforce the “No ID entrance order.
A civil defence Hilux vehicle that was stationed by the fence of the National Museum which is directly opposite the House of Assembly later drove off.
