Nearly four years after the foundation for the new Secretariat of Badagry Local Government was laid, the edifice has now been completed and commissioned by the chairman, Hon. Olusegun Adeniran Onilude.
The ultramodern building which is erected on a land area covering 1,119 square metres, is named the Legacy Building and was commissioned on March 11th 2023 by the Senator representing Lagos West, Senator Adebule Idiat Oluranti.
Joining the Senator at the event alongside the chairman are other dignitaries in the ancient town notably the two other LCDA chairmen, Hon. Gbenu Hennugbe Joseph of Badagry West and Hon. Olatunde Samson of Olorunda West LCDA.
The Badagry LG Legacy building which is constructed by Selovian International replaces the one that has been seat of the local government headquarters when it was laid in the 1970s.
The plan for the erection of the administrative building started in February 2018 when a soil test was carried out and the foundation laid in November 2020. The 40 rooms ultramodern building is estimated to cost the local government a fortune up to ₦214 million.
It would interest you to know that “no one has added a block to change the face of the secretariat. The best anybody has done is to remove the louvers, change them to sliding windows and repaint,” Onilude said during the foundation laying.
Onilude, who has been in office since July 2017, while commissioning the multimillion naira office complex emphasised that the era when local government administrators and workers operate under conditions that give room to inefficiencies are long gone.
It is not enough to serve our people but to do so efficiently and effectively. This is a fulfilment of one of our core mandates of this administration in tandem with the mantra of Lagos State as a centre of excellence, Onilude emphasized during the commissioning.
Badagry is one of the foremost local government areas in Nigeria. First, it was called Egun/Awori District Council, then to Badagry Local Government when the local government covered the entire area from Seme to Ajegunle.
Later, it was divided into two, namely Ojoo and Badagry. Later, Ajeromi came, Amuwo came and now has two LCDAs (Local Council Development Area) namely Badagry West and Olorunda within the region.
The current location of the council’s Secretariat was moved from the Badagry Town Hall by a former chairman of the local government, Late Chief J. J. Gbededo. The town hall is coincidentally remodelled and renovated by the contractor who completed the Secretariat, Selovian Group.
