Bodex Social Media Hangout: Participants Enlightened on Tapping into the Potentials

Social media strategist and popular shoemaker, Bodunrin Florence Hungbo was the point of attraction as she hosted some dignitaries and the public at the 2019 Social Media Hangout tagged “Using Social Media in Shaping the Society” at Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos.

While welcoming the audience, Florence opined that the internet can no longer be dismissed considering the influence in this age.

“We need to recognise them as the greatest agenda-setting tools in the modern and also exercise great caution in the way and manner we deploy them as engagement resources,” Florence said.

Fuji icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka K1 The Ultimate, in his address commended Bodex for her entrepreneurial spirit and frowns at regarding things made in Nigeria local but rather will say the products are now glocalised.

The hangout which also featured talks from brand influencers had Gloria Ohagwu – a presenter and producer of Voice of Nigeria discussing Social Media: Weapon of Destruction and Progress; Taiwo James, a Digital Marketing Practitioner discussed Social Media as the new customer journey and Laila Ijeoma, a brand influencer who shared insights into what makes up the community in blogging.

Others in attendance are the founder of Kobz Media, Fatuntele Tunde; Yeye Lara Fashola-Fanimokun, a maritine lawyer and founder of Olokun Foundation talking about the advantages and disadvantages of social media in today’s tradition/culture as well as the Executive Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on New Media and Public Relations, Mr. Olusegun Fafore who spoke on the Consequences of Insidious Comments in the Cyberspace.

Ijeoma advised anyone who intends blogging to define their passion and find a niche while also noting that the reason for blogging is also having traffic on it.

She encouraged bloggers to develop and have loyal readers, define target age group and identify their interests.

Posts should be intentional and audience should be engaged, Ijeoma shared and advised to be calm while under pressure then stay committed and consistent to community building.

In her conclusion, she advise bloggers to monitor their social media metrics, note contents generating traffic and also track competitors.

Yeye Lara in her discussion said that “culture encompasses social behavior and norms in the society.”

Social media, she said, creates awareness and real time advertisements and can even reconnect with old folks irrespective of location.

She however noted that major disadvantages are having too much information online and sometimes lack of morals.

Mr. Olusegun Fafore on his part gave insights that the internet now has reach compared to the last 20 years hence the manner of disseminating information is key.

Unlike the 0.1% then, the internet penetration is now about 57% within the age group 30 years and these dominate the Twitter community.

With these analysis, Fafore hinted that there may also be disruption if the age group exit the Twitter community for the next big platform.

The programme was not all about talks but there was also comedy, performance Q Dot.

Also in attendance are the Former Inspector General of Police, Chief Tunji Alapini and Ara (the first female drummer), some Nollywood actors, and Asiri who anchored the show.
