Bodo-Bonny Road/Bridge Near Completion 50 Years After

The Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridge is a 38km long road passing Bodo, Afo, Opobo and Nanabie to Bonny conceived by Yakubu Gowon administration in 1970 to connect oil rich Bonny Island to the mainland in Rivers state.

The project which was finally approved for ₦120bn in 2017 to be equally funded by Federal Government and NLNG and executed by Julius Berger is now standing after 50 years with the completion date due by August 2022.
This is the first link road to the island which is host to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and other oil companies who uses boats and helicopters as the only means of transportation.

The project is tagged as the biggest community social responsibility (CSR) initiative by a private company in Nigeria and is expected to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta region and open up opportunities for rapid socio-economic development.
