COVID-19: NGO donates PPE kits worth ₦500,000 to council in Badagry

An NGO, Real Acts of Kindness (RAK) Development Foundation on Tuesday donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth ₦500,000 to Badagry West LCDA to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the council.

Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Pioneer of the RAK said the donation was a strategy adopted by his NGO to curtail the spread of the pandemic in Badagry division.
Ogunlende said that the motive behind the donation was to give back to the society especially at the crucial period of COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the decision to start the PPE kits donation from Badagry West LCDA was because of his believe that charity begins at home.
“I am from the council and I believe in the saying that charity begins at home that is why we are starting from Badagry West, as a way of complementing the Hon Joseph Gbenu led administration.
“What we brought here today includes  20 boxes of Latex hand gloves, 40 packets of Disposable Gowns/aprons, five eye goggles, 10 pieces of face shield.
“Others are 40 pairs of elbow gloves, 25 packs of face mask,  five pices of  infrared thermometers, hand sanitisers and hand washing soaps.
“It is my believe that all these PPE will be judiciously used by council to curtain the spread of the pandemic in the council and communities within the council,” he said.
Ogunlende urged the staff within the council to observe social distancing and always use face masks as stated by the Lagos State government.
Speaking after receiving the kits at the local government Secretariat in Kankon, Gbenu commended the NGO at the presentation of the items, thanked RAK Foundation for donating the kits to the council.
He said that he appreciated the kind gestures of the NGO, adding that the equipment would go a long way in curbing  Coronavirus pandemic.
Gbenu said although the council have done a lot to fight against Covid-19 ranging from disinfection to food palliative, adding that it had also created a Covid-19 holding centre at APA in April where the PPE kits donated would be  useful.
“On behalf of the good people of Badagry West, I thank you for donating this. Badagry West is your home base, for sometime now I have seen a lot that you have done, not only in Badagry West, but other Local Government Area.
“If someone can think deep after the distribution of foods, sanitisers, soaps etc and still went further to purchase PPE for the council, he needs to be appreciated,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chairman handed over the PPE to the council Medical Officer, Dr Toyin Akinloye for even distribution across the five Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the area.
Akinloye said that the PPE came in at a time the PHCs were running out of the equipment.
“We are really running short of the supplies of PPE equipment and RAK has just donated them to us at a very good time.
“I am sure the health workers will be praying for the NGO.
The equipment are exactly what we need for the frontline workers,” said the medical officer.
NAN reports that dignitaries at the presentation include Mr Rauf Yemaren, Vice Chairman, Badagry West LCDA, Mr. Gusanu Sovi, Secretary to the council, LG, Mr Anthony Godonu, the Supervisor  for Health, Solomon ZOSU, SSA on Information & Tourism.
Others are Mr Amusa Rasaq, Majority Leader, of the council, Mr Ayodele Hunge, Council Manager,  Mrs Omodara Bolaji, the Apex Nurse,  and  Mrs Carolyne Olowo-Osi, the Community Health Officer. (NAN)
