A female TikTok user, Blessing Nwakaego Okoye, has been sentenced to three years in prison for cyberstalking Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus.
The judgement was passed by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos who gave the ruling on Wednesday, 2nd August.
The TikToker, Nwakaego, was convicted after pleading guilty to two counts of cyber stalking and was allowed to either pay ₦150,000 fine instead of going to jail.
Nwakaego however connived with one Chimabia (who is still at large) and they planned to commit the crime in Lagos between December 2022 and July 2023.
The social media user had been detained for spreading derogatory allegations about the Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus, then she confessed she did so because a friend, Fortune Ibe, promised her ₦200,000.
While the matter escalated, the actress turned down appeals to settle the case outside of court rather charged her for slandering her hard earned reputation.
Subsequently, Nwakaego apologised to Eniola in a video saying she needed the money to pay her house rent and that desperation drove her to act in such a way.
In her words “What happened was that a friend of mine, Fortune Ibe, said if I should come out and talk about Mrs. Eniola Badmus, he was going to send me 200k because I told him about my rent.
“That was what prompted the video. I am so sorry; I just did that because I was desperate to pay my house rent. I just did it because of the money.”
