The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been criticised by the State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman for choosing to stay in Ibadan, Oyo State upon his return to Nigeria.
Why Did Akeredolu Leave Ondo State for Oyo State?
Recall that Akeredolu was flown to Germany for medicals three months ago and had returned on Thursday to Nigeria after a successful trip on his health.
In his absence, the deputy governor was in charge of the governance of the state.
He is expected to spend a number of days in Ibadan before moving to the Government House in Akure, Ondo State.
How The PDP Reacted to Akeredolu’s Return to Nigeria
The spokesman of the Ondo State PDP, Kennedy Peretei, in a press statement showed his displeasure that Akeredolu’s first port of call was Ibadan and not his home state where he is also the governor.
According to Kennedy, it was “absurd” for the governor to stay in Oyo instead of Ondo, adding that it would have been a sign of respect to the residents of the state who had been praying for his recovery.
The Press Release From Ondo State PDP on Akeredolu
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter expected that, now that the Governor is back in Nigeria, his first point of call should have been Ondo State, where everybody prayed for his quick recovery and return to his duties.”
“Instead, he headed for Ibadan and instructed all State Cabinet members and State Assembly men to join him.
This is very absurd and an insult on the sensibility of the Ondo State people. If Akeredolu has been certified fit to resume duties, let him notify the Assembly accordingly to conclude the remainder of his tenure for which he has been barely tolerated.”
How Akeredolu Is Planning To Relocate Ondo Governance To Oyo State – PDP
The opposition party also alleged that Akeredolu is planning to relocate the Ondo government house to his residence in Oyo by not resuming duty in Ondo.
