The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has passed on at the age of 67 after a prolonged battle with leukemia.
How Rotimi Akeredolu Died
According to online news outlet, Sahara Reporters, it was learnt that Akeredolu died in Lagos as informed by a family source.
“Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos.”
“They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.”
Issues With Akeredolu’s Health and Ondo State Governance
In September 2023, he got back to the country after leaving three months earlier and was resident in Ibadan, Oyo State where he made efforts to govern the state but the issue was not supported by the public.
On his return from the medical trip abroad which was in Germany, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, intervened and Akeredolu had to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa
The ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany and only recently proceeded on another one after he was directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who has been acting in his stead.
Antecedents of Rotimi Akeredolu Before Becoming Ondo State Governor
Akeredolu was a former Attorney General of the state and later went on to become a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association and eventually being elected as the Governor of Ondo State.

Tributes has seen been coming in for the late legal luminary and politician.
Former senate president, Bukola Saraki, former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Seyi Makinde, The Governor of Oyo State; Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State as well as Akinwumi Adesina, the President of Africa Development Bank; Pat Utomi and a host of others all paid their respect to him.
In Lagos State, there was a one minute-silence for the former Governor which was observed by President Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top Lagos stakeholders at the Lagos House in Marina.
