“Things fall apart” was what Chinua Achebe titled one of his novel and the literal meaning is what seems to be playing out within the camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, as there is reportedly a cold war between the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the Pastor in charge of the City of David, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.
Adeboye, according to sources, was said to have directed Iluyomade to resign his post at the branch which has not pleasant to the pastor-in-charge and he has grossly refuted the directive with displeasure.
Iluyomade on his part is also the Special Assistant to the RCCG General Overseer on Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) aside being in charge of RCCG Region 20.
The resignation directive is could not be unconnected to the recent events that surrounded the death of the Group Chief Executive Officer (Group CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe – the CEO who is a significant contributor to the church died an aeroplane crash which involved his wife, son and business partner/friend.
Recall that about a week after the death of the financial mogul, the wife of Iluyomade had a glamourous 60th birthday party which has also brought undue attention to the wife, Siju, in particular especially when social media comments were directed at her dance to popular secular Nigerian musician, Flavour, who entertained the audience. Many expected that the event will be toned down a little because both families are close aside that the late CEO is generous with the church.
Sequel to this, Wigwe’s family were also reported to have directed the RCCG not to come near the burial service and this decision is said to be inline with the lavish ceremony held by the pastor’s wife.
To this effect to calm the atmosphere and make peace reign as well as appealing to the deceased family, Pastor Adeboye allegedly requested the resignation of Pastor Iluyomade as the resident pastor in charge – a decision which has made him infuriated and disobedient to the order.
